a quickie

Once Erik brought home some blood orange soda and even though I’m not a huge soda fan, I drank that blood orange soda obsessively. But I don’t like it enough to pay the price they’re asking for it (it’s way too much for freaking soda, man). Then I saw this recipe for essentially the same thing that I could make at home and I made it and it was good. The End.

Blood Orange Soda
recipe from Eats and Beats

You Need:
1 cup blood orange juice (it took about 6 blood oranges for me to yield this amount)
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
club soda

In a heavy bottom pot, mix the blood orange juice with water and sugar. Heat over medium, bringing it to a light boil. Stirring occasionally, let the mixture simmer until it is reduced by half (and it becomes a syrupy substance). Let it cool to room temp. Store in a jar in the fridge. To make the soda, mix about 3-4 Tablespoons of the syrup in a glass. Top off with club soda and stir gently. Add some ice cubes.
